Kitsap County is proposing zoning changes that threaten to destroy our rural horse community. These new regulations would make it nearly impossible for horse facilities to operate, ending generations of agricultural tradition.

Equestrian facilities serve as unique community hubs that preserve and share rural culture with our youth, veterans, people with disabilities, and the broader community. We urge Kitsap County to drop all proposed zoning changes that burden equestrian facilities and instead strengthen existing protections under Washington State's Right to Farm Act.

The Threat We Face

Excessive Permitting

Require expensive Type III permits for basic horse training and lessons, treating small facilities like major commercial venues.

Impossible Setbacks

Mandate 200-foot setbacks for paddocks that would effectively ban horse facilities on parcels under 5 acres.

Restrictive Hours

Limit operations to 7AM-8PM, ignoring the reality of horse care that requires flexible schedules.
